Fellow Councilmembers,
At the last Council meeting, the Mayor presented letters from elementary school students. After the meeting, I read those letters (see attached to this posting). In these letters, they thank us for “protecting them and keeping them safe”. It is noteworthy that in our council-level discussions, we have had no initiatives for improving sidewalks for children to get to our parks and library, street lighting, improved crosswalks at our parks, improvements in traffic control, and signage in high-traffic neighborhoods and streets with limited-sight distances. We wait for yet-to-be-defined actions and maybe future “grant” funding for neighborhood traffic safety initiatives. I ask you to remember Korbin, Bridget, Tyler, Elijah, Sofia, Tanner, Armani, Isabella, Dominique, Louie, Sloane, Mara, Lizzie, Madilyn, and all our children when prioritizing budget items.
