Schertz EMS service

Fellow Council Members,

My feedback from residents and my observations regarding Schertz EMS service to Universal City is that they have provided quality service to our residents with an average reported response time of 3-5 minutes to include responses for multiple simultaneous calls. All questions asked by fellow council members were very good.
As presented last evening, this service is offered at a competitive cost, however, the specifics for a cost comparison with other contract services were not provided by staff.

It would not be unreasonable, as RAFB has done, to define the contractual service obligations with performance measures and timely updates by our Chief on any anticipated cost increases for programmed funding. It would also be reasonable for staff to report on the number and types of calls provided for our residents (and calls within UC for nonresidents). Hopefully, this will be included in future staff reports. Unfortunately, the Council discussions did not lead to how the increased cost would be funded in the next FY.

It is noteworthy that the City of Schertz operates this EMS service as an Enterprise operation, meaning that its revenue is provided principally by service users.
