Proposal for directing Billboard fees due to the City to the General Fund.

Last week, I met with the Mayor, City Manager, and our financial officer. One item discussed was the possibility of returning the billboard fees due to the City to the general fund. This is approximately $80,000 per year. At this meeting, there was a consensus that this could be done. The proposal is that this change would be effective beginning in the next fiscal year. I am hopeful that this will be considered as an agenda item for Council deliberation and action..

Section 551.006 of the Texas Gov’t Code allows communication or exchange of information between Councilmembers about business or public policy over which the Council has supervision or control if it does not constitute a meeting or deliberation.

I am fine moving that to the general fund. But, if we are faced with a choice of leaving that in golf and repurposing the venue tax, I would rather repurpose the venue tax.
