Formalizing Recognition of City Volunteers
Fellow Council Members,
Our City volunteers are the heartbeat of our city. I move to formalize the Certification and Recognition of our City Volunteer Programs at a Special Council meeting each December and consistent with the guidelines of President's Volunteer Service Award Program.
History: Presidential volunteer awards program.
Dec 2, 2018 —President George H.W. Bush: "Our nation faces a wide variety of challenges. "The solution to each problem that confronts us begins with an individual who steps forward and says, 'I can help."

Volunteers: Must complete eligible service within a 12-month period.
Annual Awards would follow guidelines similar to Presidential Volunteer Service Awards:
Adult Volunteers:
• Bronze, (100-249 hrs)
• Silver, (250-499 hours)
• Gold Awards (>500 hours)
• Lifetime Achievement Awards (>4000 hours)
Affidavits will be submitted by each certifying organization verifying the volunteer hours required to earn the award. Awards will be revoked when information is presented that an awardee did not meet the criteria for the Award. The organization certifying agent shall complete an annual 1 hour training course and must maintain a log of volunteer hours submitted annually.
Establish a volunteer award program for Young Adults (16-25) and Teens (11-15).
Award: Customized certificate to be presented by the Mayor at Council and presented on UC-TV for all residents to see. Volunteer efforts would additionally be identified in a special article in Gateway Magazine.
